Two reports by Arad relating to early language development have been published by the Welsh Government. 

A review of research evidence on the effectiveness of different approaches to promoting early speech and language development 

This report presents findings from a Rapid Evidence Assessment (REA) of international research on successful early language development (ELD) interventions for children under four years old. It concludes by identifying key features of successful interventions and consideration of early language assessments for bilingual/ multilingual children and practitioner training associated with the interventions reviewed. The findings will be used to inform future guidance and delivery of the ELD entitlement in Flying Start. The report is available here

A review of practice in the implementation of the early language development support element within Flying Start.

This report presents findings from research into the delivery of the Flying Start Early Language Development (ELD) entitlement. Mixed methods were used to engage with practitioners, parents and Speech and Language Therapists. The review considers practitioners’ awareness, understanding and training in relation to ELD, models and structures of delivery, screening and assessment tools and engagement with families. The findings will be used to inform future guidance and delivery of the ELD entitlement in Flying Start. The report is available here.
