Arts, culture and heritage

Our team has expertise in measuring the impact of arts, culture and heritage programmes.

  • Arts Council England (2024)

Arad was commissioned by Arts Council England to carry out an evaluation of the second year of the Magnetic International Visual Arts Residencies Programme (Magnetic 2). The aim of the evaluation was to assess the impact of the programme on artists and venues and how the programme was designed and delivered by UK and French partners.

  • Monmouthshire County Council (2023-25)

Arad are currently undertaking an evaluation of the development phase of the Shire Hall Museum, Monmouth. As part of this an evaluation framework has been developed to monitor progress against the aims of the project including a logic model to guide data capture throughout the development and delivery phases. A data capture framework is being produced that can be used by project staff and colleagues to incorporate data collection into community engagement, activities, events and project development/delivery. Staff and volunteers from MonLife Heritage were invited to attend a workshop in which Arad presented the logic model and frameworks providing them with the opportunity to provide feedback and contribute to the development process.

  • Welsh Government (2022-23)

Working in collaboration with The Means and BOP Consulting, Arad supported Welsh Government officials in the production of a new Culture Strategy for Wales, based on appropriate sector research and engagement with key partners from across the culture and heritage sector in Wales (and the wider UK). Arad undertook research and engagement work through discussions with individuals and representative organisations, collating data, information, and perspectives, based on lived/professional experience, to form an evidence base from which the new Strategy can be developed. As part of this work, Arad contributed to the development of case studies and goals and actions to form part of the Strategy.

  • Welsh Government (2022)

Arad undertook an evaluation of Welsh Government funded activities designed to promote Wales’ presence at the 2022 FIFA Men’s World Cup in Qatar. The evaluation assessed the impact of funded activities in Qatar, the USA, and Wales, involving partners such as Arts Council Wales, Sport Wales and Amgueddfa Cymru in a ‘Team Wales’ approach with Welsh Government. The research examined international perceptions of Wales and its culture, the potential for developing business new business and cultural links and impact on the participants involved (e.g. artists, young people, businesses) and delivered recommendations for future strategies.

  • Creative and Cultural Skills (2019-22)

Arad delivered a formative and summative evaluation of the Cultural Ambition programme, which was funded in Wales through the National Lottery Heritage Fund. Cultural Ambition was a 3-year programme, designed to support new skills development opportunities, entry points and qualifications for young people from under-represented groups and support heritage organisations to improve diversity and access. The evaluation examined the impact on participating trainees in terms of their skills development, confidence, wellbeing and progression along with the impact on participating heritage and cultural organisations in enhancing the diversity of their workforce and working in partnership. The evaluation also assessed the overall impact of the programme in meeting its strategic goals, in line with NLHF evaluation guidelines and funding expectations.
