Arad undertook a feasibility study into the establishment of a food enterprise zone at the Glynllifon campus as a driver for the development and growth of the food and drink sector in north west Wales. This work was followed by a review of the feasibility and development of a business case to create a Rural Economy Hub at the Glynllifon campus, offering a range of facilities and services to strengthen and enhance the regional economy, specifically through growing the food and drink sector.

Arad evaluated the Skills for the Digital Economy programme: a £4.5 million programme of research, training and support for the Creative Industries delivered between 2011 and 2015 (funded by the European Social Fund, Welsh Government, S4C and the trade association for Welsh TV producers). The evaluation methodology included surveys of course participants and creative industries employers as well as interviews with participants, employers, training providers and stakeholders. An economic impact study was undertaken to determine the contribution that the training and support had made to the economy.

Arad undertook an economic impact assessment of the production Y Gwyll / Hinterland on behalf of S4C. The study estimated the economic value of the production of the television series to the local economy of Aberystwyth using a multiplier approach. The methodology included surveys of cast and crew members as well as local businesses that supplied goods and services to the production.

Arad researched future options for developing Business Hubs’(using the term Business Hubs to include the whole range of services for businesses, not merely physical centres). The approach included a desk-based review of evidence and stakeholder interviews to understand the breadth of support currently available to businesses. Evidence from these phases was analysed as part of an initial options appraisal, and four options were then taken forward and tested during interviews with 30 businesses and support organisations.
